Question by Balla1: what would you say my political affiliation is based on my views (lengthy read) ?
Based on my views listed below, what would you categorize me as? Am I a Democrat (Liberal) or a Republican (Conservative)? or Am I Conservative Democrat or a Liberal Republican? or am I just an Independent with more views favoring which party?
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS:
– Abortion: I believe that abortion should be illegal in nearly all cases. However, I am not 100% pro-life because I do believe that in cases such as rape or incest that the woman should have a choice.
– Affirmative Action: 20 years ago? yes. But now days I believe that it is no longer needed.
– Gay Marriage: I am personally against gay marriage, but who am I to judge? I do not support it, but I believe every tax paying citizen should be allowed their rights. Whether it’s marriage, civil unions, etc. I believe it should be left up to each individual states.
– Prayer in Schools: To me this should be left up to the schools and or the communities. If you want your kid learning about Christianity, then send them to a Christian school. Public schools should not be required to have prayer in schools or to NOT have prayer in schools. Each school or community should vote on it.
DOMESTIC ISSUES:
– Death Penalty: I am for the death penalty. Why waste our tax dollars on keeping them in prison?
– Gun Rights: I believe every American should have the right to own a gun(s). However, there needs to be more control on how the process works with more detailed background checks. Also, no one needs an automatic machine gun in their house.
– Health Care: I am 100% AGAINST “free” universal health care. I think that we need more options to help lower the cost of health care with tax breaks and to not be held down to only be able to purchase in state health care. Universal health care is not the answer.
– Illegal Drugs: I believe that marijuana should be LEGAL. I am not a supporter of it, but to me it is no worse than alcohol. Drugs like cocaine, heroin, etc. should still be illegal.
– Welfare: I am against the current welfare system. The system is a joke and is abused more than used for good. It gives MOST people the wrong attitude that the government (aka OUR tax dollars) should always be there to financially support them. I think that there should be something like a “3 month limit” as to how long you can use the system.
ECONOMIC ISSUE:
– Illegal Immigration: I think that we should tighten up our security on the borders. However, the illegal immigrants who are already here should have a fair right to citizenship. HOWEVER, they must pay a fine and learn English.
DEFENSE:
– War on Terror: I supported George Bush after 9/11. However, shortly there after and since then, the “war on terror” has been terribly mismanaged. In my opinion, we are too worried about policing Iraq and should be more concerned with tracking down the actual terrorist groups individually throughout the rest of the world. Yes, I admit that the surge has worked, but it’s time to get our troops out of Iraq … or at least most of them.
