Think This Granny’s Over the Hill? She is

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 24, 2011

Accomplished ultra-marathon runner, dedicated philanthropist and grandmother of four, Linda Quirk, will be joining thousands of runners, from 55 different nations, to participate in The North Face Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc. Considered to be the most challenging foot race in Europe, The North Face Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc is a 103-mile race across France, Italy, and Switzerland’s pristine Alps. The event requires completion in just 46 hours and has an elevation gain of 9,400 meters, which typically puts the elite runners across the finish at about the 20 hour mark and the rest at about 35 to 45 hours. There are no prizes for this event, just bragging rights and hopefully for Linda, awareness and much-needed donations for her new 501(c)(3) charity RunWell: The Linda Quirk Foundation.

“I’ve completed some age-defying runs over the past three years, but this one is going to be a doozy,” says Linda Quirk. “I’m thrilled to announce my new charity ‘RunWell: The Linda Quirk Foundation’ and can’t think of a better event to kick things off.”

Linda has spent the past several years running the world to raise scholarship money and awareness for addiction treatment and promoting the benefits of long-term recovery. Her journey has taken her across seven continents (in 2008 she ran a marathon on every continent, including Antarctica, in under a year) and four of the planet’s extreme deserts, including the: Sahara, Gobi, Atacama, and Antarctica (In 2010, Linda became the oldest person and first American woman to complete RacingThePlanet’s 4 Deserts “Grand Slam” in under a year). Now, the 58 year-old grandmother faces the Alps with much anticipation as her charity RunWell goes live.

By participating in races like The North Face Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc, Linda continues to bring attention to addiction treatment, recovery, and the importance of including the entire family in the process of treating a loved one’s addiction. RunWell’s goal is to help make drug and alcohol addiction treatment accessible to everyone. Her goal for The North Face Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc is to finish in time.
