Problem With Perscription Drugs…?

Question by Trajity: problem with perscription drugs…?
i have often wondered to myself this question and have finaly decided to ask, since their are no such thing as “illegal” drugs they are only “controlled” why is their such a fuss over medicinal merijuana. From what i understand the whole concept behind “controlled” means that the government is givin the responsability to despense said drug to people who need it for medical purposes.

So technicaly speaking shouldn’t medicinal marijuana have been perscribed ever since they sceduled it as a drug?

This also pertains to other drugs such as methamphetamine which i alrealdy know is perscribed but VERY rarly to ADHD patient’s, just because of the wrap street methamphetmine get’s it is deturing doctors from perscribing it to people who could use it. ///and i know what your thinking “they alrealdy perscribe adderall (amphetamine) and ritalin (methylphenidate) but form what i hear Methamphetmine has much better concentration effects with less side effects than the aformentioned drugs. So no because of the hype a street drug gets patients are missing out?

Please some one who understands this explain it to.

Thanks you
i think you took my question out of contexed, i did not mean methamphetamine on the streets where the effects you stated are common i mean the effects onee gets from the perscribed methamphetamine (desoxyn) which has a dosage range that can go UP TO 20mg (10mg 2x a day) a day (which is far less than the amounts taken by recreational users 40-50mg at once and continusaly through out the day) at the dosages used for ADHD the effects you stated hardly applie at all, thus making it a safe drug with less side effects than (amphetamine) under the brand name adderall. Yet doctors are far more reluctant to perscribe it due to the news coverage and stigma of street methamphetamine and it therefor a loss to patients who are loosing out.

Most drugs that we have today were founded and used by physicians to treat their patients. Over time, the effects of some were found to be too harmful for regular use, this could mean either harmful to the body or harmful to the mind.
Since you used methamphetamine as an example, I could tell you a story, but it’s a sad one so let me just tell you the side effects that I’ve had the personal pleasure of witnessing: Mood swings, irritability, jitteryness, hyperactivity, lack of sleep, followed by too much sleep, paranoia (a biggy), temporary psychosis, and others that I do not really care to dwell on. I’m not saying that all drugs are bad, but the side effects of some are too extreme for there to be any real benefit.
FYI, A controlled drug is a drug whose manufacture, possession, and use are regulated by a government. This includes illegal drugs and prescription medications. The government “controls” the laws surrounding any named drug, so they control whether it is illegal or prescription, etc. etc. That’s where you get the phrase “controlled substance” from.
Marijuana is still considered an illegal drug in all states, but can be prescribed in a few of them California for one, NorCal rocks!). The controversy over legalizing marijuana is partly because it is considered a “gateway drug”. This means that use of this drug may lead to the use of stronger, more dangerous drugs.
Sorry for the length, it’s a rather lengthy subject!
