Prescribed Amphetamine-Insurance Ending February 16th. HELP!?

Question by Kitty: Prescribed Amphetamine-insurance ending February 16th. HELP!?
My doctor currently has me on generic amphetamine for my ADD, however due to my cut hours at work (I work part-time while going to school) my insurance is going to be dropped starting February 16th. I’m worried about my current medications since amphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance and I won’t have insurance anymore. I was hoping to just go to a community health doctor to get the prescriptions there and only have to do a sliding scale fee but then there is the actual price of the medication without insurance which after a little research online will be anywhere from to 0 dollars!!! With my tiny, part-time income that kind of money is simply out of the question. I might be able to do -40 per month for some sort of discount or prescription plan but I’m really at a loss. Most of the websites that I’ve seen for discount plans don’t even LIST amphetamine yet alone their mother drug Adderall for a discount because of them being regulated by the FDA and DEA. I also don’t qualify for state insurance (I’m in Washington state) and the Basic Health Insurance is going to be stopped thanks to our lovely, wonderful (sarcasm) governor starting June 30th. Any ideas, websites, forums, blogs on ADD…ANYTHING I would GREATLY appreciate!! Thank you!

Ask the smallest (non-chain) pharmacy you have in town their cash price. These days, it’s the small pharmacies who aren’t part of chains that can lower prices to specific customer’s needs. As far as I know, in my pharmacy in KS, a 30 day supply of generic Adderall is well under . If you’re on the extended release, it might be more, since the generics for Adderall XL just came out recently. Best advice is to ask the smallest pharmacy you can find, tell them your story, and see if they can’t provide you with a discount.
