Marijuana as a Treatment for Mental Illness?

Question by Baby Hitler: Marijuana as a treatment for mental illness?
I have schizoaffective disorder, take my meds religiously every day, but they just don’t work 100%. I still suffer a great deal. I started smoking marijuana in addition to my meds and it has been the difference between night and day. My functioning has gone up and I’ve started socializing and enjoying life again. Has anyone else found marijuana to be a good medicine for mental illness?

By the way, I don’t smoke all day. And I don’t crave it all day. At the end of the day I like to smoke a J and watch TV. I do admit I am addicted, though.
Thank you Garden.

Marinol is a prescription drug that you could try. It has helped my brother, who has tourette’s, to reduce tics, and the OCD that came along with it. He saw on a tourette’s website that it would help with tics, and had never had pot before, so he got some. Sure enough, it worked!

Marinol is a schedule 3 drug, just like most other medicines. It is not considered a drug that can be abused. My brother finds the marinol to work better than pot, and there are no worries about committing a crime.

Good luck convincing you doc, tho!
