Because people only use drugs which gives them pleasurable effects, this is in itself is the addictive potential of cocaine. Because cocaine works primarily in the brain, it will in time cause nervous system problems.

One of the most essential issues of physical recovery from cocaine use is the necessity to abstain from the desire to use sedatives, alcohol or any other anti-anxiety medicines to treat the desire symptoms through cocaine recovery. If any of these are used, it just shifts one addiction to another addiction equally hard to recover from.
