I Wonder Why Cats Will Purr and Look Like They Are on Heroin?

Question by tooter: I wonder why cats will purr and look like they are on heroin?
My older cat appears to always be in this state of euphoria. Often staring at me from across the room or in my lap with these squinty eyes as if she can barely hold them open, while purring? It must be nice to be in that kind of relaxed/laidback/sleep all the time type state of mind

You have a very happy contented cat. She loves you and is apparently healthy. I wouldn’t be concerned about it unless she stops being that way. If you want to see a cat go into a state of elation, give it catnip.
