When Someone Goes in for Drug Treatment, What Does Detox Mean?

My niece is going in for treatment tomorrow and they said if she can do without the cocaine for 24 hours she won’t have to go through detox. I thought detox was where they gave you non addictive drugs to help you clean your system of the addictive drug. Please tell me anything else you might know about the detox part of recovery.
