What Do You Think Are the Major “External and Internal Dangers” Today Which Government Ought to Address?
Question by Bob Dole: What do you think are the major “external and internal dangers” today which government ought to address?
In Federalist 37, James Madison argues that “Energy in government is essential to secure against external and internal dangers and to prompt the salutary (beneficial) execution of the laws that are a part of good government.”
What provisions of the U.S. Constitution would enable governments to address those issues?
What are the proper limits to an energetic government?

I honestly think the three major issues we need to face INTERNALLY are:
1. The widening gap economically in our society–we are becoming a nation of a few wealthy and the GREAT majority poor citizens. NOT GOOD. Historically look at France when she excluded a large part of her middle-class.
2. The lack of a national health plan. We pay for the uninsured by the high health insurance premiums, local taxes, and federal taxes to support the medical care providers. Yet many people in this country can’t afford to go to the doctor, so they don’t get treated when their medical conditions are minor, but end up with major problems requiring hospitalization.
3. The willing surrender of our liberties and freedoms in an effort to be “Secure” from terrorists. Who would have thought that we would surrender our right to be free from “unreasonable searches”–to wit, the checking of our bank accounts, email, and phone calls. We have authorized our government to spy on us, our thoughts, and our legal actions.
The external dangers appear to be our alienation of the Muslim communities by our unwarranted wars in muslim countries.
Illegal immigration–look at the word–ILLEGAL.
Outsourcing of jobs — in the name of profit–and these are AMERICAN companies! What about corporate and business responsibility? Particularly in relation to Jobs, and the society in which they sell their products and/or services.
Those can all be addressed by legislation.
The proper limits are specified in the Constitution–ALL Powers NOT given to the government are reserved to the people!
