Identify the abuse of statistics.
“7 out of 10 dentists recommend Brand X toothpaste”. This finding is based on the results of a survey of 10 randomly selected dentists. What is wrong with this survey?

The random sampling of dentists is far too small to provide any meaningful statistics applicable to dentists in general. Such a survey should include at least 100, preferably several hundred dentists, and should also be taken in several different parts of the country.
