Waiver for the Air Force?

Question by jennelle: waiver for the air force?
can alcohol dependency be waived to enlist in the air force if you have no other medical problems? i got a dui back in november and pleaded YO since i have never been in any other trouble with the law. my dad is a police officer and insisted (forced) me to go to treatment thinking it would be the responsible thing to do. i don’t drink any more and had no drugs in my system or paraphenia at the time of my arrest. i screwed up and regret my poor decision to drink and drive and learned from it. i want to move on with my life and serve my country. my recruiter said that my medical records are being sent to the surgeon general to be looked over. do i even have a chance?
well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I wrecked my car and my BAC was very high. It was a rough night and I’m lucky no one was hurt. I did get a completion certificate from the rehab and I no longer drink or wish to. And I have had no other arrests, charges, run in with the law.

There are several factors to consider: 1) How much and how long were you drinking when you received the DUI?; 2) Did you get a certificate of completion from the Rehab center?; 3) Have you been drinking since?; 4) Any other law enforcement problems?. If you have shown responsibility since your incident, then you have a chance to enlist in the Air Force and would not need a waiver. Good luck to you.
