Save Our Kaka’ako

Poem in text form: cid-f70cd3872df9111f.skydrive.live.com As seen in this clip, I composed and performed the spoken word piece, “Save Our Kaka’ako,” at First Thursdays, hosted by Kealoha, in Honolulu, HI. Previously, on April 12, 2006, I performed the piece at the Hawai’i state capitol. My performance was part of a rally to protest the sale of public land on the stretch of Honolulu coastline called Kaka’ako which fronts my South Shore home surf break, Kewalos. A massive commercial development is planned for this area pending governmental approval of the sale of this land. We won “the first round,” in the sense that the initial sale of this area of public land was derailed, but we anticipate future challenges.
