Police Officer: Am I Still Eligible to Become One If….?
Question by RBW2: Police Officer: Am I still eligible to become one if….?
I am an active duty United States Marine who is about to get out after 5 years w/an Honorable Discharge. I want to become a police officer, but have a few setbacks and potential disqualifiers. First off, I’d like to point out that I’ve done alot for my country’s freedom and am in excellent physical and mental condition. I know I would not only be a great police officer, but one of the best in the city! Although, I’ve never been convicted or charged of any drug related offense, I have experimented w/marijuana, cocaine, synthetic opium, acid, mushrooms, and methamphetimines in my past. (marijuana- 5 years ago, the others-7 years ago) I did also sell marijuana for approx. 2 years to supplement my full time job salary. That was about 7 years ago as well. I am getting ready to pursue a Bachelors in Criminal Justice….Will applying for a police officer position and studying criminal justice be a waste of my time, due to my drug history?
How do I put myself through the academy? I’ve never heard of this?
