How Long Must One Wait to Take Methadone After Taking Suboxone?

Question by Devaughn M: How long must one wait to take methadone after taking suboxone?
My friend was going to a doctor for opiate addiction and the doc was prescribing him Suboxone as part of his treatment program. He can no longer go to the doctor due to the extremely expensive cost of the doc and the prescriptions, so he is considering the methadone clinic which will save him almost $ 200.00 per week. He is wanting to know how long he should wait to go to the methadone clinic to prevent precipitated withdrawal symptoms. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, and please ONLY experienced informative answers. I will report you if you are negative in any way. Thanks

You can take methadone anytime after taking suboxone, even immediately . It’s the other way around you have to be careful of. If you take suboxone too soon after a “normal” opiate, like Oxycontin or heroin, that’s when you can get precipitated withdrawals. That’s why they make you wait a day before taking suboxone.

Suboxone sucks, but methadone sucks even worse. Maybe you’re “friend” should consider getting off everything. I was on 20 mg a day of suboxone, and now am free and life is so much better.

Funky’s post below is, well, funky. She doesn’t know what she is talking about. Vicoden and suboxone are 2 very different drugs.
