Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant that is very addictive due to the way it affects the reward system in your brain.
Internally:
When meth is absorbed it, crossed the blood-brain barrier and enters the brain and immediately goes to the nucleus accumbens (region in your brain where dopamine is present), enters the neuron synapse and blocks the re-uptake of dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical that is associated excitement, pleasure, memory energy, motivation and has a number of functions in the brain. Meth basically goes into a neuronal synapse where natural dopamine is present and blocks it from being reabsorbed back into the brain. More so, meth also reverses the receptors effect and shoots more dopamine back into the brain from the reserves where it’s stored. This extreme overload of dopamine essentially creates the “high”; euphoria, excitement, huge increase in energy and excessive motivation.
At some point, the drug wears off which induces the drug crash, which is due to a lack of dopamine and other brain chemicals. The drug essentially exhausts your brain chemicals temporarily, leaving the user feeling depressed, uncomfortable and brain dead. This makes the user want more, because it creates an overload of dopamine and other brain chemicals, giving them the high they had previously.
Meth also works on other chemicals such as serotonin, and norepinephrine in similar matters, which contribute to the massive amount of stimulation you get after dosing. It is possible to stay up for days or even weeks on the drug.
Externally:
Meth use takes years to produce grotesque external damage, but it can rot your teeth (due to teeth grinding and clenching while on the drug), create sores and rashes from other internal reactions, create pore damage in your skin, create baggy eyes and makes you more susceptable to any sickness/disease because it damages your immune system as well.
After all that being said, I highly advise staying away from the drug. The short-term euphoria is not worth the damaging potential.
