Why Do Drug Addicts Think That We Non-Addicts Don’t Understand Their Addiction Problems?

Question by liz: Why do drug addicts think that we non-addicts don’t understand their addiction problems?
I have a family member that says that I don’t understand his problem and he continues to lie to himself and that rest of the family.

I don’t think you can understand an addicts problems unless you have been through it yourself. That’s why when they get help they go to something like AA, where there is a group of people with the similar problem, going through he same thing. This way they can support one another.

Tell your family member that even if you don’t understand, you still care. An intervention might be a good idea. I believe you can hire professionals that will coach you and your family on the do’s and don’ts of interventions, and will host it.

Good luck.
