CAN I GET ADDICTED to CLONAZEPAM ? I TAKE a VERY SMALL DOSE.?

Question by Robert S: CAN I GET ADDICTED TO CLONAZEPAM ? I TAKE A VERY SMALL DOSE.?
Hello
I am on clonazepam for last 9 months due to panic attacks I developed after severe gastritis and ulceration of the stomach. I take small dose every day. Usually it is 0,125mg, sometimes its 0,25mg.
My doc wants me to take 0,5 mg 3x a day but I am doing well on these small doses and I do not need to increase them.
I have learned however, that clonazepam can build dependency and can be very addictive.
My approach to my panic disorder is that it is something temporary that has built up in accordance to severe symptoms of other disease and that it will go away soon. Therefore I would not like to stay dependent on this drug to the rest of my life.
So my questions are :

1. Is clonazepam in such a small doses I take / up to 0,25mg a day / really addictive ?

2. If so, what is the detoxification process and how can I get rid of an addiction fast and effectively ?

My doctor says it will not make me addicted, but I have doubts…

all benzodiazepines run the risk of addiction and tolerance.

however…you are taking a pretty low dose.

the tolerance bit comes more into play for folks taking klonopin for it’s anticonvulsant properties rather than anti-anxiety. The effectiveness of clonazepam in the short-term treatment of panic disorder has been demonstrated in controlled clinical trials. Some long-term trials have suggested a benefit of clonazepam for up to 3 years without the development of tolerance.

it’s good that you have made the decision to not rely on the meds for comlete relief.

Quick detox (withdrawal) is not at all recommended. it can cause benzo withdrawal syndrome, which can cause psychosis.

like i said, you’re on a pretty small dose and you’re determined to only use the meds for the short term so i think you should be ok (and so does my boss)
