Why Do Christians Around My College Campus Refuse Alcohol?

Question by Mark: Why do Christians around my college campus refuse alcohol?
It always confused me as to why Christians (nondenominational) around my college campus gather together and refuse drinking. Being a Catholic, I know that drinking is an acceptable, I mean heck we drink the bread and wine every mass.

This has always been a big question of mine and would like SERIOUS ANSWERS, no religious prejudice please.

Alcohol is a toxin. Why do you drink it?

Sounds to me like the Christians are smarter than you.
