ACL REHAB – Steady Recovery vs Accelerated Program?

Question by deccyj: ACL REHAB – Steady Recovery VS Accelerated Program?
What are the pros and cons of both types of methods after acl surgery?
obviously with a program you will be back to sport faster, but what are the physiological effects that each method has?
thanks

Depending on the type of acl replacement surgury, I’m assuming endoscopic here, if you only use an accelerated programs over a more traditional program, you run the risk of not properly rehabing the other four ligaments of the knee.

If you’re not an active sports type person, without steady rehab you won’t be properly training your knee to withstand daily use properly.
The new acl has NO blood flow, it can’t stretch and recover like your natural acl and so the other four ligaments have to take up the slack.
A steady rehab conditions the other ligaments to work without the acl. The new acl basically only acts as a stabilizer or really tight rubberband. With proper conditioning you can train the new acl to stretch more naturally without snapping back.
An excelerated program for someone who doesn’t use the knee in a regular sports program will have problems with the new acl later on.
