How Long Have You Been Taking Dexamphetamine For? and What Is Your Dosage?
Question by bronzedaussie_19: How long have you been taking Dexamphetamine for? And what is your dosage?
I have been taking Dexamphetamine to control the symptoms of my ADHD for almost 15 years now and was wondering if anyone else had been on it for as long or longer?
I have posted in many ADD/ADHD forums posing the same question, however, am yet to find anyone who has been on it for more than 5 years!
As there hasnt been any extensive research into the longterm effects of use, i am concerned as to what my future holds for me, especially concerning my mental health.
I am a dex dependent (not addicted, I dont crave it or have withdrawls if i dont have it, I just cannot function in a “normal” or “socially acceptable” manor without it), I am currently prescribed around 90mg daily and have little prospect that medication will ever cease.
Alternate options have been tried with little to no success.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Bronz, The research for your problem is done on yearly basis..they have to keep up with this ADD/ADHD is very wide spread and should always be diagnosed by a Psychiatrist not a doctor in general practice….This medication is not for weight loss it is for people who have problems keeping their attention span active in everyday occurrences,it helps them to keep balanced and their confusing of everyday occurrences normal. It is also used with certain antidepressants to make them work better….you have been taking this drug for 15 yrs and I will say 15yrs ago this drug was not yet known to help ADD/ADHD so that really blows my mind…However 90 mgs could be dropped only by your doctor to 60mgs….and also your question leads me to believe that you suffer from anxiety and dex will not help you with this problem…..There is a new form of dex on the market that has extended release and has less side effects I will get that name to you i promise….I think that it may be time for you to be revaluated by a psychiatrist for peace of mind and to make sure you need to lessen the dose….sorry to say this is some thing you have to live with but hope is there in smaller doses…Please see a professional who deals in the mental health field …..Do this for You ….I hope you act on this …..be well my friend …luv kara
