Research Shows That Dopamine Receptors Decrease With Addiction. How Can People Get Them Back?
Question by Kaname-Kun: Research shows that dopamine receptors decrease with addiction. How can people get them back?
Addiction in general decreases dopamine receptors — Heroin, cocaine, masturbation, eating, gaming, whatever addiction in general is capable of decreasing dopamine receptors I believe. However, is it possible to regain those lost receptors?

I’m not sure eating, gaming, or masturbation reduce dopamine levels significantly enough to influence the receptors.
That said, nerve receptors usually do not regenerate if interfered with. However, some receptors do regenerate if habits are changed. I do not know for certain, but I’d say if dopamine levels are suppressed for a time (we’re talking years) they might have limited returned function.
Interesting question, there may not be an easily accessible answer to it. Do some research!
