What Is Being in the RCMP Like?

SHORT QUESTION: As a constable. What would you do during your average day? No taser jokes please 🙁

EXTENDED: I’m thinking about joining the RCMP, but would like to get an idea of what the career is generally like.

I’ve already looked in the recruitment process, mortality rates, genderl/racial requirements* (“preferences”) etc. All I need is some sort of expectation for how things generally are.

For example, do you simply wait around at the depot waiting for a call to come in? Is there a schedule where set duties rotate, or do you get put on a task force with a specific duty? How much variability is there between the duties of a police officer in a rural area, compared to a city? Is there a “type” of person who is generally attracted to police work which you should be able to work with, as they’ll likely be your colleagues? What personally to you find to be particularly frustrating and beneficial about police work? I’ve heard police officers can seem like they just are in it for a “power trip.” Any truth to that?
Do they measure your aptitudes and suit you to duties which match them, or is one constable performing the same job as another regardless of their skills or interests?

For example, I’m in university taking a Bsc of Psychology program, and addicition highly interests me. If I were posted in a city, could I request to do work and get in on some sort of program which involves addicts, like a methamphetamine task force or something?

The RCMP website assures me that jobs and opportunities bountiful, but doesn’t elaborate, which I thought was pretty bizzare. Why? Isn’t that something you want to emphasize? Shouldn’t they want to give potential recruits the resources to plan and research so they can make a solid, informed decision?
I’m not going to spend a whole bunch of time dealing with the academy, let alone the RPAT, interview, polygraph, and medical exam without any solid idea of what the duty entails… Geeze, clearly I didn’t get the memo…
