I’m 17, female and am a casual sales assistant at a shoe store. I started there a little under a month ago, but already I feel like I’m having problems. I’m good at my job and have never made a serious error, but lately my managers have been making me feel like I’m on thin ice and I’m not even sure why. When I was working with one manager, she told the other manager wanted to “evaluate” me on what I had learnt and what I still didn’t know. She said it was no big deal. When I was on with this manager that supposedly wanted to test me, she said she was doing it because the other manager complained that I wasn’t helping and was leaving most of the work to her. After the “test”, she said she didn’t see a problem with my performance at work, and couldn’t understand what the problem was!
Thing is, I don’t have a problem with the manager that keeps “complaining” about me after every shift – I thought we got along fine and the work was always done! She often left me for long periods to manage the store while she “went for a smoke” or “got some groceries”. I don’t understand why she keeps complainning!! How should I handle this situation?
