Question by PM: Why are people so against marijuana?
I really do not understand why people are SO against marijuana at this day and age. I am 20 years old, and literally almost all of my friends have done it, and if they haven’t and tried it, they liked it. I really do not see what the big deal is anymore, they tried to scare us in the DARE program growing up, but they weren’t realistic with what they taught us. They basically compared it to coke and heroin and I don’t think its right to lie to kids like that.
People are going to jail over this bullshit and we are paying so much money is taxes to keep them there because they wanted to get high, that is just pointless in my book. This world has so many more serious issues to worry about than marijuana. It also really bothers me when people talk about “smoking dope” in crimes, weed does not lead to crimes, these people are just ignorant.
The whole “gate-way” drug is bullshit and so is the “addiction”. Weed does not cause addiction, you do not get any physical withdrawal symptoms with it, like you do with nicotine. The whole drunk driving and stoned driving is also bullshit, the effects it has on your brain is nothing compared to what alcohol does to you behind the wheel.
Telling someone NOT to do something is just going to make them want to do it even more, I don’t see the harmful effects in marijuana, and it useful in so many different ways other than getting high. I have really bad anxiety and it helps take the edge off when I am feeling overwhelmed, I also have really hard time putting on weight due to a lack of appetite, and it really helps to get me eating.
Is there anyone out there who can give me a serious answer, as to why people are so against it? What is it really doing that is harmful to the population?
I guess what I am asking is, why are people still trying to compare it to hardcore drugs and make it sound worse than it is?

Unchecked moral hypocrisy, if they were really against drugs they’d be against alcohol too which is more harmful. I haven’t researched this yet, but I think more lives are ruined while marijuana is illegal: drug cartel deaths, gang deaths, it’s seen as something rare which makes it more attractive, people getting unrealistic sentence times, etc…
When’s the last time you’ve seen a 98 year-old alcoholic?
