When Should an Intervention Be Instituted?

Question by Star: When should an intervention be instituted?
Please give any examples other than drug/alc addictions. Could it be used for a potentially negligent attitude where someone could get hurt if their thinking is not changed?

Obviously gambling and child abuse are two that come to my mind. Child abuse requires mandatory reporting by anyone that works with children.
