When Did Corporations Start Telling Us Which Exercises to Do?
Indeed, like many Americans I never thought that the U.S. Congress and Senate would ever pass something like the health care bill, making its citizens buy something – health insurance in this case. As an entrepreneur, I understand what businesses are going through, because before retirement I was in the franchising industry, and we set up small businesses around the country, and back then providing health care was even difficult, since then, health care costs have outpaced insulation by a “factor of 10” over the last decade. Not sure how a small business is going to manage that these days, they can barely turn a profit as it is.
It’s important for people to have health care insurance, especially for catastrophic events which may occur, and the reason it’s so important is because medical costs have gone through the roof. Why have they increased so much you ask? Because the government has been paying for healthcare costs for so many Americans, and now they feel it their right to go to the doctor early and often. As a matter of fact, it was amazing the number of billionaires on the Forbes 100 list that suddenly sprung up after Medicare was passed.
It is now estimated that workers who are overweight, unhealthy, and do not exercise are putting a severe burden on the healthcare system, and far too many Americans are getting diabetes. A recent study in Scotland just showed that 97% of Scots smoke, abuse alcohol, or live a sedentary lifestyle, and far too many do all three. That means only 3% of their population is living close to a healthy life.
Something has to change there, but also in the United States, we are not immune, and even if our numbers are slightly better than that 97%, they’re nothing to write home about. The other day I read an interesting article in the WSJ, it came from the Associated Press, the article was titled “Employees Earn Cash for Exercising More,” and just reading the title that makes a lot of sense.
From a risk standpoint, it makes sense that a health care insurance provider would be able to lower the cost for those people who stay in good shape, because they will not get as sick as much, or have severe ailments early in life. Not long ago, I was discussing this with a friend, and I made this statement; “Will Health Care Costs Ever Come down; I Haven’t Been to a Doctor and 20 Years, I Want a Discount!” And now I see that in the future maybe I will – that is if this policy ever takes hold.
Someday soon, the government will have to ration the healthcare they promised all of us, and they are already telling us what we can and cannot eat, even taking various food products off the market because they may not be good for us. They are also putting very high taxes on cigarettes, sodas, and others foods, calling it a “sin tax” – it’s already beginning, it’s only going to get worse. Please consider all this.
