What Kind of Crystal Is Dry Ice?
Question by Ella: what kind of crystal is dry ice?
On a chem test I had the question “Dry ice (CO2) is a soft crystal that melts at -52 degrees C. The pure liquid does not conduct electricity. What kind of crystal is this? Why?”

There’s a huge number of answers you could give to this, but the one rhey’re probably looking for is covalent discrete molecular.
The fact that it doesn’t conduct electricity in liquid form show that it’s not ionic or metallic and is therefore covalent. The low melting poing show’s it’s not a covalent network structure like diamond or silica. Therefore it’s covalent discrete molecular.
