Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is often one medication in cold medications. It has a chemical relationship to amphetamines and pseudoephedrine is often used in the manufacture of clandestine methamphetamine. And the “ephedrine” part of pseudoephedrine is a good indicator of the relationship with ephedrine (often used an an appetite suppressant), epinephrine (adrenaline) and more distantly amphetamines.

Only a modest % of people will feel a little energized from the pseudoephedrine. And the level of energy pseudoephedrine can produce is certainly small compared to related substances.
