What Exactly Is the “Church of Scientology?”?

Question by Baby Esh: What exactly is the “Church of Scientology?”?
I tried finding it online, but it seems that 99% of the information I read was just criticism and attacks toward the church. What exactly does this religion believe in? Please don’t just copy and paste from Wikipedia or another source, I tried reading it and understanding it but it’s way over my head. Put it in layman’s terms please. Thank you!

At “Operating Thetan Level 3”, Scientologists are told the following: The evil alien ruler Xenu killed millions of aliens (Thetans) from around the universe by kidnapping them, bringing them to earth in golden DC-8 “space-planes”, stacking them around volcanoes & blowing them up by dropping “h-bombs” into the volcanoes. The “Church” considers psychiatry, psychiatrists and psychiatric drugs to be evil. It doesn’t recognize legitimate conditions like autism, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or ANY neurological disorder / chemical imbalance, and the “Church” has been known to withhold prescription drugs from members. The “Church” blames psychiatry for the Holocaust, as well as school shootings & even September 11th.
