Question by lalaland…123: what exactly is “hoodia”?
i saw in an advertisement that trimspa is making this energy bar called “Foodia”

just by hearing the word “hoodia” — it sounds like a dangerous substance like “ephedrine” or something

is it?

Hoodia is some kind of plant that grows in, ummm, South Africa, I think. I’m pretty sure it’s South Africa.

Ephedrine is also a plant substance, but it grows in China and in the US, too. Ephedra is sometimes called “Mormon Tea” because Mormons who moved out to Utah would drink it instead of tea or coffee. They were forbidden to drink stimulants in the form of tea or coffee…but they weren’t forbidden ephedra! Wheeeee!

Hoodia apparently really works. However, it only grows in one small part of the world and the supply is very limited. So most products that claim to have hoodia really only have a teeny-weeny bit of active substance and don’t really work. If you choose to use hoodia, make sure that the level of hoodia is 100% guaranteed. The guaranteed formula will be very expensive…hence all the -oodia knockoffs. Caveat emptor! That means, keep your stomach empty! No, it means “buyer beware.” A diet pun for you.
