What Do Homeless People Usually Do With the Money You Give Them?

Question by Clause: What do homeless people usually do with the money you give them?
I live near the beach (20 minute drive) and so I go there from time to time to hang or chill between work and classes.

I see so many homeless. I feel so bad for them. Each and every one of them. I give them anywhere from 5-7 dollars. Enough for a meal. But I see some of them with dyed hair, a CD player, Jordan’s, etc. I don’t want to generalize. I don’t know their situation but how often will they use the money to better their lives? I was walking with my girlfriend then a homeless man came up to us asking for a donation. He was a flattering guy as he told me my GF was very pretty and I must be an excellent guy. He then went ahead in asking then my girlfriend said, “If we give you money, will you buy food and clothes or will you buy alcohol.” The look in his eyes said alcohol but he said food. We asked if he was sure then he said, “Okay I lied to you two I’m sorry.” We laughed it off and we both gave him a ten. As we walked past my girlfriend looked at him and said, “Had you been honest, we would have given you a twenty so you can buy food, a new shirt and a nice tall 40 ounce.”

But in reality, what is it that they most often buy? I pity them after knowing 25% of homeless are vets of foreign wars. I also feel bad that many grew up in rough situations and in their lifetime, their family seems to have forgotten them. Some are even mentally ill and as a psychology major, that hits me deep.

I just wanna know what they buy because it really seems like very few actually try to better their lives.
To be fair, my girlfriend was only kidding with the twenty. I don’t give more than ten and rarely close to ten. After all, I am working part time and I need gas money. We did feel bad for that guy as he was very old and was wearing torn clothing.

Gerald, I know you’re mad but I just can’t help but pity them. I am just so inclined to show some type of act of mercy. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s my super Christian background my parents raised me in, (which I later left to become Buddhist).

Most homeless people are mental or I’ll that’s why they live on the streets . I never give them money I only give them food because they usually buys drugs . Trust me some earn more money than we do because they make people feel bad so they get tons of money to spend on alchohal and weed
