THE DAY AGAINST DRUG
Drugs are used generally to cure diseases.
But some of the drugs are used by some people to get excitement and to forget the real world.
Such narcotic drugs are prevalent all over the world.
It is an unlawful act going on unabatedly.
Every year 26 June is observed as International day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The objective of this event is to express the determination to strengthen action to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
The fight against drug trafficking is carried out constantly at various levels.
Heroin, Hashis / Charas and Ganja are some of those drugs banned by law.
Seizure of these drugs puts a check in the production and movement.
It is only a check, not the solution.
International cooperation in combating drug trafficking is essential, to help and create an International society free of drug abuse.
The drugs and their derivatives may vary from natural narcotic drugs such as opium, heroin, cannabis, cocaine etc. to synthetic drugs such as amphetamines, ketamine and precursor chemicals such as acetic anhydride.
These are drugs concealed in one way or other and moved to various parts of the world.
Such drug smuggling is watched carefully by custom officials at land borders, sea ports or airports, as a result every year they seize large quantities of these dangerous drugs and destroy them.
The Custom Officers when they come to know the production points try to visit and destroy the standing crops from which drugs are made or processed.
Many times we hear in news.
Heroin and cannabis (ganja) are the important drugs grown and sold in India.
Some of the South American countries including Mexico are leading drug manufacturing and trafficking countries.
Similarly Afghanistan, Pakistan and certain parts of India are also involved in these immoral and unlawful activities.
Addiction to drugs invariably keeps this business on.
Appropriate treatment and rehabilitation are offered by both the government and non-government organizations.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of Government of India are looking after these aspects.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India points out that drug abuse and trafficking are major challenges to the well being of our society and nation.
Our youth are the worst victims of this menace.
Drugs, generally, affects the physical and mental health of a person who is addicted to them.
Victims of drug addiction are drawn to crime and become susceptible to other vices.
It is a global social problem to be tackled mainly by civil societies.
Say ‘no’ to drugs and advise others not to think of drugs even they are in deep mental stress.
A better society should be free from drug abuse.
26 June of every year reminds us to do something against drug abuse and trafficking.
