The Book “Push”, the Movie “Precious”, What Do You Think?
Question by Jayme D: The book “Push”, the movie “Precious”, what do you think?
I read the book “Push” a few years ago while I was going through college. The book seemed totally real to me. I had read that critics said the book was “unrealistic” because no one had “that many problems”, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I am a Nurse and a part time social worker, and I see stuff like this on a regular basis. It’s not uncommon to see drug addicted parents who are physically and sexually abusing their children. It’s not uncommon to see children who are abused end up in shelters because there are not enough foster parents or people willing to adopt.
I see these things ALL THE TIME, in black families, in white families, in hispanic families. Child abuse knows no boundaries, people of any age, race, color, religion, income, etc can have this happen to them.
What do you think? Have you ever read the book? Did you see the movie? What’s your thoughts?
I think Mariah Carey did a good job in the movie, but I would rather have seen a “no name” actress than a big star.

I have never read the book, nor seen that movie~but both intrigue me.
I aim to be a social worker once I’m finished with high school, so anything on the subject I’d like to learn about.
