This is a portion of what Web MD had tto say: This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. It is not recommended for use for long periods or in high doses near the expected delivery date because of the potential for harm to an unborn baby. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

No,that’s not unusual, expectant mothers can have very painful conditions while pregnant, some have preexisting conditions that are chronic in nature, some even have a surgical procedures,so the use of a narcotic pain reliever would be justified to prevent undue suffering and pain for the Mom.That would require close supervision for the patient by the doctor,to prevent abuse. The truth about becoming an “addict” after using those meds for legitimate medical reasons are way overstated. The key would be to get the Mom off the meds, prior to the birth, there usually isn’t any side effect for the baby. The big difference between an “addict’s” unsupervised and criminal use,is totally different circumstance than a patient under a MD supervision and care Take care.
