20 yr old just throwing all her talent away – didn’t go back to art school this semester – dating a heroin addict who is going to jail in a few days for 3 months – she drops everything about her life to hang out with him. Naranon meetings don’t help – she thinks she can handle it and knows what she is doing. Helps at home but only when asked. Has one part time job with limited hours and is not looking for another job – but has time to go hang out with her very limited number of friends. Time to give her the boot – or should I be patient and support her while she figures it out?? We are exhausted from trying to motivate, inspire or guide her.

Not going back to school – not cool either.

In my opinion, trying to inspire and guide someone who’s not in the mood for being inspired and guided is just a speech given to deaf ears. I don’t know about the giving-her-the-boot thing, it’s totally up to you; but what I know is that supporting her is definitely not the right thing.

You have to make her feel that what she’s been doing is not right. That’s for sure. The rest is up to you and if you ask me, it wouldn’t be right for others to discuss about. Good luck
