Residential Drug Treatment Centers: Long Term Residential Drug Treatment
According to the DEA and a number of health officials, the primary drug addiction threats in the US today which also pose serious public health threats are:
prescription painkillers that are illegally trafficked
MDMA’s or “club” drugs like Ecstasy (a.k.a. “date rape” drugs)
Methamphetamines
marijuana
heroin
cocaine both in crack and powder form
The numbers of annually reported cases of serious illnesses and death from overdose have been steadily increasing over the past several years, hence the need for more long term residential drug treatment programs. Over the past 2 or 3 decades, new facilities of this nature have opened their doors so that these increasing numbers of suffering addicts can receive the help that they deserve and need.
Unfortunately, when you compare the traditional addiction treatment and recovery center with the long term residential drug treatment facility, the harsh reality is that many of these long term drug rehab centers are failing their clients. The primary reason for this is that the traditional facilities have patterned themselves after clinics or hospitals, which can be very intimidating to the client when entering the facility. Additionally, the methods and therapies that they employ are now considered to be ineffective and out of date.
The result is that when the individual completes the addiction treatment and recovery and returns home to society, there is an 80% or 4 out of 5 chance that they will eventually relapse back into their addictions again. On the other hand, the more successful long term residential drug treatment centers offer features and benefits that most of the traditional addiction treatment and recovery facilities do not, including:
long term residential drug treatment centers address specific needs of the client including the emotional and psychological ones and may discover that there are certain behavioral issues that may have led to the onset of the addiction – the traditional addiction treatment and recovery centers do not provide emotional and psychological needs.
long term residential drug treatment centers provide their clients with a homelike setting and a residential environment so that they can relax when necessary and get the rest they need – the traditional addiction treatment and recovery centers do not.
long term residential drug treatment centers provide their clients with educational tools and alternative recovery therapies so when they return home to their communities, they do not relapse – the traditional addiction treatment and recovery centers do not.
