Luzerne County’s new day reporting center opens in Wilkes-Barre today, giving some non-violent prison inmates the chance to get paroled sooner if they appear at the center and comply with treatment plans.

The San Diego Padres have extended manager Bud Black’s contract for three years through the 2013 season, with club options for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Black has had the surprising Padres in first place in the N.L. West since April 20. They have an N.L.-best 54-37 record and a four-game lead over the Colorado Rockies.
