Ranger Guided Tour to Secret Crystal Ice Cave, Lava Beds National Monument

Ranger Angela prepares the group of six fortunate spelunkers at the top secret location of the Crystal Ice Cave.

The first ten minutes of the tour were INSANE!!!! and were like one of those Nintendo games (which I never learned to play): hop over a fence, climb down a cliff, squeeze through a hole in the rock, climb down a ladder and then slide down an ice slope! And another tight squeeze, and another ice slope.

Spelunker strolling By An Icy Inferno – Crystal Ice Cave, Lava Beds National Monument

This gentleman and his son were on the tour. Knee pads are provided by the rangers. The tour is free, and lasts three and a half hours. The only problem is only six people are allowed in the cave and only during the Winter – otherwise the ice may melt. I feel very fortunate that a friend of mine, who is an Interpretive Ranger at the Lava Beds National Monument, called me and told me about a cancellation. The aiting list for this tour can be quite long!
