Question by answer me: Bipolar sister dont want to take her MEDICATION because of the ”Side-effects” how can we convince her to?
her boyfriend is telling her that medication is bad, and keeps telling her about the side-effects and how it ”damages the liver, cause weight-gain etc…. he is basically brainwashing her
, yes there is side-effects like all medicines but her bipolarness/MANIC episodes and actions r more dangerous to her body then the meds…
her boyfriend is being very stupid and influencial to her, how can we be the ones (mom and dad), to convince her that medication will help her?

last year she took meds and she became fine after a month or so, she hasnt gone manic for a year and a half, until now

It use to be that lithium carbonate was the only treatment and there were possible liver side effects. Now, there are over a dozen drugs to treat it, some that will not give her side effects. Have her and her bf go to the psychiatrist together so he can explain. If bf won’t listen, she should dump him and stay with the medicine. Her bf may like the highs she has without the medicine since it often has increased sexual activity, but it is not worth the swings to the lows.
