Otay Mesa Drug Tunnel Discovery One 2010 – ICE agents discover cross border drug tunnel at a warehouse in Otay Mesa, CA, 600 yards north of the US Mexico border near San Diego… Federal agents served a search warrant at the warehouse and found 20 tons of marijuana.. An additional 10 tons of marijuana was found in a tractor trailer rig that was under surveillance by ICE agents and later stopped at the Border Patrol checkpoint at Temecula with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol. The tunnel had a railway system to transport the bundles of marijuana and included ventilation and lighting.. it was 80 feet deep in some spots.. The entrance to the tunnel was discovered by Mexican police on the other side of the border in Tijuana. Two people were arrested, a husband and wife… The man is a US citizen and the woman is a Mexican citizen with legal permanent resident status in the United States.
