this will be the second documentary where i’ve played ‘best buddy’ to the man in question. first time round it was my friend who is HIV positive. this time it’s heroin addiction…

It was a pretty dull (I hesitate to use the word grubby) little service station, off the highway. At that point everyone was really tired, and I was desperately trying to use a newspaper as a pillow.

I learnt my lesson, you need a pillow for long car journeys.

However, this place did offer free wireless internet (which people call "wifi", but the phrase "wireless fidelity" makes no sense). So that allowed me to get maybe one photo onto Flickr, before we had to drive off again.

A single lick of metaphorical methadone, if we are comparing society’s dependence on the Internet to heroin addiction.

Of course, are we addicted to language? To textbooks, to cars? I don’t think people using the Internet is a step backwards, I just think that we should aim for a healthy balance.

Except Facebook, can’t stand that.
