Naltrexone for Alcohol Dependency????
Question by sicofitall325: Naltrexone for alcohol dependency????
I’ve realized that my drinking is a problem. I have pretty much used it all of my life to “cure” anxiety and to lessen my inhibitions so I wasn’t so nervous and shy in social settings. Obviously, the wrong plan of action…However, in the past year things have gotten worse for me and I have been drinking literally everyday. I realized about a week ago that enough is enough and have stopped but I keep having big urges to drink and my anxiety is up, I am very irritable, depressed, and experience insomnia. I just want to better my life and stop being controlled by alcohol. I would like to go to therapy but am also interested in naltrexone to assist in my recovery process. Anyone take this before? How long and how much were you drinking? Did it help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really want to get better once and for all thanks 🙂
Is there a main website for this medication? I have been looking but unable to find one and would like to find a doctor in my area who may be able to prescribe it for me, if they think it would help and assist my withdrawals and urges for alcohol…
There is a desire to stop drinking…Last night I almost went for it…but ended up fighting it and having my bf throw it out. I have been drinking over a year every day…have always been a drinker though…I just am looking for as many methods as necessary to help me along my path…Is there something wrong with that?

See a doctor. Alcohol withdrawl can be a medical emergency. Depending on how much and how long you drank (be honest…), quitting drinking can actually be life threatening. I looked into rehab and most insurances only cover a couple of days. Your best bet is AA. It’s free and it’s everywhere. Your only qualifier is a “desire to stop drinking”. Good luck.
