Monty the Carpet Python Pt 1

The recent heavy rain in our area – over 400mm in a couple of days – has flushed out a few unwanted visitors. Here is one, Monty the Carpet Snake. He/she dropped into our place yesterday and took up residence on one of the beams in our carport, only 5 or so feet away from one of our aviaries which houses two of our long term rehab galahs. Luckily the brother of a neighbour used to keep snakes as pets and knows how to handle them. He came around late in the afternoon and collected Monty. He said he will keep Monty for about a month to check he/she is okay before releasing him somewhere in the countryside away from residential areas.

Our Marine Animal Rescue Program (MARP) is currently caring for 11 endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles. They were rescued by the New England Aquarium in December, and transferred to the National Aquarium for long-term rehab. We will release them back to the wild when they are healthy enough and when the waters are warm enough.
