Named ‘Fellow’ to the internationally respected deYoung Museum, Mr. Epps has leap “straight outta Hunters Point” youth park and landed forcefully into a film career that brings a courageous view of how a generation of young contemporary Black youth navigate their way through the mean streets of a severely burdened San Francisco neighborhood. Armed with a film camera, tripod, guile, hustle, a vision and a propensity to know what’s up…Kevin has positioned himself at the window and given us a world wide sized view into what it is to be profiled at risk; to be starved out of education, healthcare, housing and employment opportunities while living in a major city that supposedly always knows how to get things done. Kevin’s contribution to turning his community around has launched a positive cadre of young followers. His leadership is providing a source of bright light where no light had existed during the traumatic era of crack cocaine use. He has brought enlightenment where apathy had been the drink of choice.
