I have a 14 month old daughter who flips out every time the sitter comes to watch her. The sitter has been a family friend for years and I’d like to trust her, but my daughter cries and becomes scared when I’m about to leave her alone with the sitter/friend. The sitter has watched other kids and has no history of being abusive, but my daughter never freaks out for anybody and she just seems so scared of the sitter. Since my daughter doesn’t have the verbal skills to tell me if she’s being hurt, what signs should I look for? Am I overreacting?

My first thought is that she is crying and acting out because when the sitter is there, that means you are leaving…is there anyone else you leave her with? Perhaps try leaving her with someone else…see if she reacts the same way no matter who you leave her with….they may help to tell you.
