Hyperactive Medications – How Making the Right Choice Can Change Your Child’s Life For the Best

As we know there is quite a lot of controversy about ADHD hyperactive medications. As these are basically an amphetamine type drug, their effects can be quite startling and often the children cannot wait to stop taking them. On the other hand, there are lots of kids I know who are on hyperactive meds such as Strattera, Adderall and Focalin and they are getting relief from their symptoms and parents feel happier.

We know from statistics that prescriptions for Ritalin went up by about 25% in a four year period. The downside to hyperactive medications is that the side effects can be quite severe. Here we are talking about insomnia and sleeping problems which are not or should not be a part of childhood. Then there are the problems associated with stomach aches, nausea and loss of appetite not to mention low energy levels.

Add to that the problems of mood swings which are probably exacerbated by too much sugar intake, and it is a recipe for disaster. There is also the problem of some children getting weepy and whining all the time when they are on these drugs.

Apart from the problem of hyperactive medications, there is the question of teaching ADHD kids how to cope with an academic setting, a social setting and how to behave. Basically that is what parenting skills are all about.

But no pills will teach parenting skills. This is where child behavior modification techniques or parenting skills comes into play and must take absolute precedence over any pills or hyperactive meds. The fact is that if this is not done and you cannot spend time with your kids or organize some physical exercise or martial arts for them, means that any treatment plan will be compromised.

Actually martial arts is a great favorite with ADHD children although you will have to make sure that your child actually likes it, before he is committed to it. However it does teach a lot of skills that pills will never do. These range from self control, discipline, teamwork and a healthy sense of competition.

But a martial arts class may not be enough to solve your child’s ADHD problem. Finding an alternative to ADHD hyperactive medications which can be effective in calming the child, and helping the delicate mind body balance with out any nasty side effects of amphetamine like drugs is key. I have prepared a website to examine the whole question of ADHD natural remedies. Why not click through and see how this could change your child’s life for the best.
