One day at a time. Some people do get relief from pain associated with withdrawal. Some do not. I wouldn’t tell her that her pain could go on like this because she needs to get through the pain today, not worry about the long term which she can’t solve today. The reason it can persist long-term is that years of narcotic use change the way opiate receptors function in the brain. She may have suffered long-term nervous system damage. On the other hand, medical practice and alternative treatments can now solve many problems that could not be solved 20 years ago, so there is always hope that new technologies in her lifetime will solve some of today’s challenging long-term issues without causing the kinds of side effects caused by narcotics.

Take it one day at a time. I wish you both all the best.
