Here’s Something for All You Cool Analytical Psychologists!?

Question by your moma: Here’s something for all you cool analytical psychologists!?
Ok, so the story goes:
So, my family was pretty much destroyed by alcohol abuse, and I myself suffered from pill abuse. but I hate alcohol and weed and all that dumb stuff, cause i saw what happened to people with it and I have physical evidence on my body from injuries that related from this, As in I got physically and sexually abused by drunk men. The only time I was drunk was at a difficult time in my life about a year ago, but that lasted for only about a week than I realized, “Blehgdiogh, alcohol!” And I never drank it again.

BUT. Every time I see someone smoking weed/drinking I think two things:
1.Haha what a dumb shit
2.Hmmm I wanna try some…

Two conflicting thoughts, I hate it, and yet I’m so drawn to it.

And recently I was at a party with my boyfriend (I love him so much btw) and my friend was there too. He, along with everyone else, was drinking a lot, and my friend was drinking some beer. And I dunno…something compelled me to drink it..and I took ONE tiny sip…and gave it back, cause it tasted disgusting, But my boyfriend got really mad…but that’s beside the point.

This is for all you cool psychologists out there.

Alcohol has pretty much destroyed my family and almost my life.

I hate the taste, etc.

Why am I so drawn to it?

Please no trolls. Yeah I troll too, and I feel like a hypocrite for saying it, but please it’s important to me, don’t be a douche..

The question again:
Why am I drawn to the substance that did all that to me?

It can simply just be your genetics. Alcoholism has run in my family in the past, so I don’t touch it. But when I go out, I’m surrounded by it, I’m tempted but I just disconnect myself from it and just socialize without it.
I’ve added a link for you incase you’re interested in the connections between genetics and addiction.
Hope everything turns out well for you 🙂
