The Alabama Department of Mental Health is asking BP for about $ 20 million a year that it believes is desperately needed, and may be needed for years to come. For although the leak may be stopped, ADMH experts worry that the effect of the oil spill on the Gulf Coast could be a silent illness that will continue to be emerging in unhealthy ways for years to come.
