We are 66 and raising my (not his) grandson. The child is generally well behaved. His bus arrives here at 7am. One morning at six thirty when I was half asleep at the stove I checked on him and he was laying on my bed, in his pj’s, gazing at an old photo album just to make me angry. He Never shows Any interest in old pictures of my parents who are disceased.
I raced up to him, slammed my hand on the album and it flew across the room. Then I jerked him up and spanked him. Then to get even? with me, he called after school and told my husband this: “can I go home with Johnny so grandma won’t BEAT ME UP?” And my H said , “no; come home.” I am So Tired during the school year and this lie he could have told lots of kids at school leaving me at risk of arrest. I was so mad and tired! How can I get him on the bus at 7 smoothly? His mother, 43, won’t raise him. She thinks it’s just too much effort and she has a history of hard drug abuse. She only wants to “visit him” briefly during summer vacations.
Do I need a recipe to put in the fridge the night before? Should I keep asking him what he wants to eat or just cook anything? I’m really sorry and have never beaten up a soul. His mom lives 650 miles away.

This was an Old album of MY parents only. Not “his” parents who have both dumped him. His mother calls him; his dad called him twice after a year of no contact. If I had pictures of his parents I would have shown him and I have done that. He Knew the bus would be here in half an hour. We had done this drill for months on end. Most of our relationship is full of hugs and kisses but he doesn’t like living in a retirement community with 2% kids. We kept him for 2nd grade, 4th grade, fifth grade and now sixth. His aunt kept him for 3rd grade-all due to his mother’s crack smoking or heavy xanax. My other daughter is totally sober, employed and terrific.

did you think maybe he did have an interest that morning in the album? i mean maybe he was looking for his mom. he’s seven he shouldn’t know better, just relax and be patient.
